About Devi

Joined the Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
January 2020

What is your approach to advising?
My approach is providing information and support for students’ needs, interests, strengths, and values, and tying those meaningfully with their academic, professional, and personal lives.

Education:
MA in Counseling from Saint Mary’s College
BS in Psychology (biology emphasis) from UC Davis

How did you get here?
I originally started in a healthcare field, but realized that wasn’t the most suitable path for me. With the help of a career advisor, I was able to identify my interests of counseling and working with college students. I completed human services coursework and a practicum through Solano Community College, which helped me to confirm my interest in counseling and to build related skills. I pursued my master’s degree in the field and came back to Solano to do my internship, where I provided academic and career counseling for students. I completed my program, and now I’m here!

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
One piece of advice is to be open to exploration and happenstance. It’s good to have plans set when working on your education, but you may come across more suitable and meaningful opportunities when you are open to new and different things. Another is to get involved with co-curricular activities, such as work, research, internships, and/or work experiences, early during your time in undergrad. These can be really helpful in discovering what you actually want to do, while providing skills/experience and giving you chances to network with individuals who can help you realize your fullest potential – all of which are elements that can guide you towards a fulfilling career path.

About me:
I grew up in Mississippi and moved to California when starting undergrad, but I still have much to learn about Cali! I love doing art, reading, hiking, travelling, watching TV shows/movies, exploring various genres of music, and trying different types of food.
