Job title:
L&S Advising Assistant
Bio/CV:

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in: March of 2021

Education

I have a BA in Psychology with a minor in Applied Psychology, and an MA in Counseling Psychology - both from UC Santa Barbara

How did you get here?

After grad school, I worked as a career counselor in higher education, nonprofit, and government agency settings for several years. I began my career at UC Berkeley as a program coordinator and administrator, but my passion for directly serving students brought me to the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising. Throughout my career, I have always brought what I learned from counseling to my work - Authenticity, empathy, strong working relationships, and solution-focused action plans.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

Don’t be afraid to reach out to people who are working in fields that interest you. Start building connections while you are still a student. There are so many people out there who would love to share their passion and life experiences with aspiring students.

Most unusual job you ever had?

For a year, I was the teaching assistant for a ukulele instructor’s beginner classes. I oriented students and assisted them with tuning, encouraged and motivated frustrated students, and set up and broke down equipment. It was such a fun job!

About me:

For over a decade, I have participated in community organizing at the intersection of queerness, race, and disability. I am a vocal advocate for mental health, accessibility, and inclusion. I forge professional collaborations across cultures and life experiences by demonstrating trust, integrity, and respect. Outside of the office I enjoy karaoke, quality time with my pet ball python, creating cross stitch samplers, and learning to play the fiddle.
