What is your approach to advising services?

I take a holistic approach to the work of academic advising and believe access and equitable pathways are crucial to student success. I have seen how accessibility to information, specialized programming and attention to individuals can make a difference in a student's college experience. It is important for educators to provide space for students to explore their academic interests as well as connecting with the whole person.

As a supervisor to student advisors, I have witnessed how mentorship and professional development opportunities have helped young professionals grow in career settings. My goal is to support student service professionals in helping students navigate the complexities of academic institutions and to encourage them to bring their prior knowledge, passion, and perspectives to their educational experiences.

How is your favorite part of your job?

There are many things I love about advising. One of the things I enjoy most is witnessing students become empowered as they learn, evolve and push boundaries. Every student's educational and career path is unique.

I hope that students leave their L&S Advising experience feeling seen and heard -  walking away with knowledge and clarity regarding next steps, confidence in themselves as well as their decision making capabilities, and feeling hopeful about their present and future.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

You belong here and you deserve to be here! You bring so much to Cal, don’t ever forget that. Establish your presence, get uncomfortable by seeking new experiences, and ask for what you need. It’s easy to get caught up in expectations and the never ending hustle. By asking for help and accessing the resources you need to be successful - however you define “success,” you will get to wherever it is you choose to go. We do the work we do to see you shine!

About me

I identify as a First-generation Chicana and First-generation professional. I also identify as a mother to my incredible son and as a caregiver to my resilient parents. Born and raised in the Bay Area, I enjoy spending time with family and friends, cooking, and listening to all the spotify playlists on shuffle. Trying out new milk tea locations is my favorite thing to do during warm summer days. The outdoors bring me peace and rejuvenation - I love exploring nature, especially California's incredible redwood tree groves and swimming holes located off the beaten path.
