What is your favorite part of your job?

The satisfaction of being part of the process for students to get their degrees.

How did you get here?
My wife and I moved to Oakland from the Midwest in order for me to have access to gender-affirming surgeries, and we decided to stick around! Previously I worked in Residential Life at Mills College, and wanted to still work in higher education, but not something with on-call duties.

What is the most unusual job you ever had?
The job itself is not unusual, but working in Residential Life brings up a lot of interesting situations. Once there was a fire alarm in the building I worked and lived in because a student was trying to make grape jelly on a hot plate in his room. It smelled good until we got close enough to his door, then the burnt smell took over.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

Don't ever hesitate to reach out for help because you're not alone in this journey!
