How did you get here?
My passion for education equity was first ignited in high school due to the support and kindness my college counselors showed me. During my undergraduate career at UC Berkeley, I had the chance to be an Intake Intern and then Intake Staff for the Educational Opportunity Program (EOP). I deeply enjoyed serving students from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds. I knew I wanted to continue being in a position where I could continue helping students, so naturally, I was drawn to the L&S Advising team. I admire the quality service they provide and the different resources the office has for students. I am excited to continue my journey with L&S Advising and hope to become a pillar of support for others!
What is the best class I have ever taken?
It is so difficult to choose just one! However, the course that stood out to me the most was a Public Health Changemaker course taught by Colette Auerswald. Through this class, I had the opportunity to collaborate with partners of the FRESAS project, in which I learned more about their early warning system development to notify farmworkers in Ventura County of wildfire hazards. I also loved a DeCal course titled "Latinxs and the Environment," we went on many fun field trips while also learning about the issues our community faces.
What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
I would encourage students to find their sense of community on campus and surround themselves with those who support their goals. While academic responsibilities may feel overwhelming, please remember to look after yourself and take the time to form meaningful memories.
