About Emilio

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
November 2017

What is your approach to advising?
While my main role is to advise on degree requirements, I am also excited to speak with you about topics outside of academics - such as your personal growth and development during your time at Cal. As your adviser, my intent is to provide you with the support and guidance you need to graduate and make sure you feel heard while you work toward achieving your goals both inside and outside the classroom.

Education:
MS, Counseling, Saint Mary's College of CA, 2017
BA, History, University of California, Santa Barbara, 2011

How did you get here?
I am originally from the Bay Area (Rodeo), and have always aspired to work at Cal one day. But the question for me was in what capacity. Like many undergraduate students I was unsure what I wanted to do after graduation. During the final weeks of my undergraduate career I decided to speak with an academic counselor. It was during that conversation, with my counselor, that I discovered what it was I wanted to do. I came to a realization I wanted to be in role where I could support individuals to achieve their goals and/or better themselves. My newly discovered insight led me to take on different mentor/counseling roles to see if I truly had a passion for advising/counseling (which I did) and as they say the rest was history. I enrolled in the counseling program at Saint Mary's College of CA soon after. And a lifelong dream of working at Cal counseling/advising students to achieve their goals came to fruition.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?
Keep an open mind, stay curious, and embrace the unknown. Take a breath from time to time and look up to the sky. Your major is what you study, not what you do, so pursue what interests you

About me:
I enjoy a lot of things! It's hard to narrow it down. I enjoy sports, being active, reading, writing, going on adventures, and spending time with family and friends. In addition to academic advising, I am accumulating necessary hours towards my marriage and family therapy and professional clinical counseling (MFT/PCC) license. When not at work, you can find me exploring the Bay Area.
