About Emilio

Joined the L&S Office of Undergraduate Advising in:
November 2017

What is your approach to advising?

While my main role is to guide you through degree requirements, I’m genuinely excited to support you beyond academics. I love talking about your personal growth and the journey you’re on during your time at Cal. As your Advisor, my goal is to make sure you feel heard and empowered as you chase your goals; both inside the classroom and out in the world.

Education:

MS, Counseling, Saint Mary's College of CA, 2018
BA, History, University of California, Santa Barbara, 2011

How did you get here?

I’m a Bay Area native (from Rodeo) and have always wanted to work at Cal. Like many students, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do after graduation. But during my last weeks at UCSB, a conversation with an academic counselor changed everything for me. I realized my passion was helping others achieve their goals and grow into their best selves. That realization sparked a journey through mentoring and counseling roles that only deepened my commitment. Soon after, I enrolled in the counseling program at Saint Mary’s College of CA, and eventually, my dream came true. I got to join Cal, supporting students as they navigate their own paths to success.

What advice do you have for L&S students in general?

Stay curious, keep an open mind, and don’t be afraid to embrace the unknown. Take a moment now and then to breathe deeply, smell the roses, and look up at the sky. Your major is what you study, not necessarily what you’ll do, so follow what truly sparks your passion.

About me:

I enjoy a lot of things. It’s hard to narrow it down. I love sports, staying active, reading, writing, going on adventures, and spending time with family and friends. When I’m off the clock, you’ll likely find me exploring the Bay Area. Alongside my advising role, I’m working toward becoming a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and Professional Clinical Counselor (MFT/PCC). UPDATE: I did it!!!! As of 2025, I’m proud to share that I’ve officially earned my license as a Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
