Fall 2021 Policy Reminders

From Spring 2020 through Summer 2021, the College of Letters and Science modified policies related to grading option changes and late changes to class schedule. These modifications ended after the Summer 2021 term.

To help adjust back, here is a summary of policies that will be different in Fall 2021 compared to policies in the previous year and a half:

Late Change of Class Schedule

Students will be allowed a maximum of two late changes to their class schedule during their time at Berkeley. However, this policy has undergone some changes from the original policy including:

  • All students will be allowed two late changes from Fall 2021 onward regardless of previous late changes made to their schedule.
  • Students can use their two late changes in different semesters if desired.
  • Changes to variable units in applicable courses after the deadline will no longer count as "late change" under this policy.

This is a summary only. Make sure to read the new policy in full.

Academic Probation

A student will be placed on Academic Probation when any of the following three conditions occur:

  • The student earns a term GPA below 1.5 at the end of a Fall or Spring semester.

  • The student earns a cumulative UC GPA below 2.0 at the end of a Fall or Spring semester.

  • The student earns no letter grades in a Fall or Spring semester. This includes earning all Pass/No Pass, Incomplete, In Progress, not recorded grades or any combination of the above. Even if a student earns all Pass grades, since no grade points are earned, the student will have a 0.0 GPA and will be placed on Academic Probation.
